About Us
  Gilbert Mission Site History

It's hard to believe it's been nearly two years since the concept of a new mission start in Gilbert entered our conciseness at Desert Cross.  Since that time the Spirit has been actively working to guide us in our decisions and plans for our second site.

Gilbert Timeline

Fall 2006

Land purchased by the ELCA for a Gilbert mission start is at risk of being sold back to developers.  Previous synod-sponsored mission starts in Gilbert struggled and eventually folded, leaving the land with no plans for development.  The ELCA tells the synod, if there is to be a mission congregation in Gilbert, it will have to be done through existing congregations with the support of synod staff.

Late 2006

Desert Cross begins to feel a call to purchase the land. Discussions and meetings are held; there is much prayer and reflection.

February 25, 2007

Desert Cross voted overwhelmingly to take the first step towards becoming ONE congregation with TWO sites. The congregation authorized the purchase of the Gilbert land (4.1 acres).
