PBS is running a project this year called The Great American Read.  They gathered a list of America's 100 most-loved books.  Some of the books are classics, and some of the books are popular entertainment.
The Book Group is choosing its selections from the PBS list this year.  First up we'll be reading A Separate Peace by John Knowles.  Gene and Phineas are students at a prep school during the early days of World War II.  The book is described by some critics as a modern-day parable about our darker side.
    Book Fee:  13.50   Scholarships Available

    CROP Walk
CROP stands for Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty.  CROP Walks are held throughout the country.  Desert Cross is having its own CROP Walk Sunday, November 4.  We're asking the Gilbert Site and the Tempe Site to come together for this great project.  Let's walk together!
We'll start at Desert Cross Tempe, walk a four-mile route, and return to Desert Cross Tempe.  Each step you take will draw attention to the struggle of poverty around the world.
Why four miles?  That's the average distance people walk to get water in some parts of the world.  Sign up today!

Pastor Holm will be traveling to India in October.  Upon his return, he'll be showing some pictures and talking a bit about these two ancient religions.
How can we account for their strength and vitality through the centuries?  What do they have to teach us about God and kingdom living?
