How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news! Romans 10:15
This pink package of Verve coffee at the grocery store delighted the preacher in me with its name: “SERMON: So easy to wake up to; Sweet, Deep & Soulful.” This coffee’s notes of blueberry pie, cocoa, and candied pecan are inviting. Easy, inviting, and good for the soul are just the kind of messages we need to hear and share today. “Verve” means enthusiasm, vigor, or spirit. We need that for our souls. It reminds me of these words from Isaiah, “How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of the messenger who announces peace, who brings good news, who announces salvation.” (Isaiah 52:7) Paul restates this in Romans, “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!”
We can bring good news in many forms. Remember the words loosely attributed to St. Francis, “Preach the Gospel always; use words if necessary.” So what kind of sermon is your life preaching? What notes can be detected as you speak and act? We can ask ourselves before we speak or act, “Is it kind? Is it timely? Is it true?” We need good news now more than ever. May our words and actions share notes of kindness which are easy to hear, good for the soul, and share a brew full of the Spirit of peace, hope, and love!
With verve, Pastor Andrea
