Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Romans 12:2a
This is an image of a mistake transformed into something beautiful! It’s a picture of the inside of a funnel that pours mistake paint into a collection drum for disposal. My daughter made a mistake while mixing paint at work, so imagine her surprise when this “mistake paint” transformed in the funnel into a beautiful mélange of vibrant color pretty enough to frame! God’s grace transforms our mistakes, selfish ways, and doubts into something beautiful: new life and renewed minds sharing faith, hope, and love.
Now more than ever we need not to conform to the pattern of this world leading to distrust and hate but to mold ourselves to the pattern of Jesus’ call to peace as he renews our minds to walk humbly, serve generously, and love unconditionally. How we treat each other while facing adversity, disagreement, and challenges should not model the pattern of the world especially in the public square. We are called to center on the peace of Christ that rules our hearts, transforms fear into loving concern for our neighbors, and gentle inquiry that seeks understanding with an aim to serve the greater good. DCLC has lots going on in Advent to help us connect with God’s word that transforms us into God’s loving people. Be sure to join in as we prepare our hearts for Christmas.
Just like that paint “mistake,” that turned into a beautiful image, sometimes change and things that seem negative are actually necessary for change to move us to the next level of doing things in beautiful, new ways. God IS with us and will transform our difficult times through our faithful dedication, patience, and support as we work together to serve God faithfully through our community! Let’s join together in these times of challenge and make something beautiful! With grace, Pastor Andrea
