For to us a child is born … And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6
As a Thanksgiving baby, I recently celebrated a birthday. Birthdays make us feel very special as family and friends take time to express appreciation for our presence in this world. This year a church friend sent a surprise gift box full of lovely items! It’s always fun to receive a special gift that brightens your day. Jesus’ birth is the greatest gift we have ever received, and we celebrate his birthday in very special ways! As we look forward to Christmas, we celebrate the gifts that Jesus brings to us: Hope, Peace, Joy, and Love.
In the 2nd week of Advent, we focus on the gift of peace. Jesus is the Prince of Peace. God sent Jesus to make the world a better place. And each time we choose peace over conflict and share his ways of peace in small ways, we are making the world a better place. It reminds me of the Scrooged film theme song from the 80’s, “Put a Little Love in Your Heart” by Annie Lennox/Al Green. Scrooge’s heart was eventually changed from stingy to generous, selfish to compassionate, antagonistic to peaceful by love.
It’s all about changing the world with little ways of sharing love that bring peace between us. The Prince of Peace wants to be the Prince of our Hearts. As we approach the world with hearts of peace, we reflect the love of Jesus onto others. Thank you for all the ways you make the world a better place as you live out your faith in everyday ways!
