Jesus said, “Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.” John 20:21
Last year I gifted my parents this challenging puzzle, and they framed their accomplishment displaying colorful birds you might find in your backyard. If you think about it, it’s a miracle that beautiful birds come from plain old eggs. At Easter, eggs symbolize the transformation and new life of Jesus’ resurrection. C.S. Lewis says, “It may be hard for an egg to turn into a bird: but it would be a jolly sight harder for it to learn to fly while remaining an egg. We are like eggs at present. And you cannot go on indefinitely being just an ordinary, decent egg. We must be hatched or go bad.”
Eggs are meant to produce birds that do what God created them to do: to fly and to sing and to spread seeds throughout the earth. Likewise God created us with certain gifts and abilities to use for God’s kingdom. Many times we are reluctant to hatch. It’s scary to grow, to change, and to learn to fly. Yet Jesus invites us to say, “Yes, Lord,” to the change he brings and to fly with him welcoming his grace and sharing it with others.
Jesus’ resurrection is an invitation grow in faith. Faith deserves our action and our commitment to trust and to follow where the Spirit leads us. So, will we remain an egg or will we hatch and let God teach us to fly even if it’s scary? When you find yourself seeking, questioning, wondering ….. Say “Yes, Lord,” and listen for the Spirit’s leading. As we open ourselves to his grace, we will learn to fly with Jesus in new ways bringing Jesus’ love to new people and new places.
Alleluia, Pastor Andrea
