The LORD determines the number of the stars and calls them each by name. Psalm 147:4
We are made of stardust. I learned this in grade school because Mr. Thompson let us watch Cosmos with Carl Sagan every week. The late Carl Sagan famously said, “The cosmos is within us; we’re made of star stuff.” It is amazing that nearly all the elements in the human body were made in a star. I’ve always loved stargazing and have been fascinated with the concept that we are literally connected to the universe and all plants, animals, and people. As Sagan remarked, “We are a way for the universe to know itself.”
We know that God created our universe and everything in it. Just as the Lord determines the number of stars and calls them each by name, so it is with you and me. God created each one of us and calls us each by name. Every one of us is precious in God’s sight. God works through us to connect us to each other. We are made of stardust and that connects us with the universe and with each other as well as the very stars in the sky.
God used a star to guide worshipers to Jesus and his love. As we reflect on the light of Christ, we can be guided by the star of his love. If your heart is hurting in these difficult days remember that you’re a star! You are connected to the Lord in an intimate way. The Lord knows your name and hears your prayers. As Psalm 147 beautifully states, “The LORD heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” As Jesus illuminates our hearts, our starlight shines onto others. Thank you for all the light you shine with our mutual mission of sharing Jesus’ love.
