Desert Cross is seeking a passionate and dedicated individual to fill the role of (LAMA) liaison, following the exceptional service of Elaine Kraemer. As a LAMA liaison, you will play a vital role in bridging the gap between our congregation and the
Lutheran Advocacy Ministry in Arizona (LAMA). This position offers a unique opportunity to make a difference in our community through acts of mercy and justice.
What does being a LAMA liaison entail?
- Spread the word: Share LAMA news, events, and resources with our congregation by including them in bulletins, newsletters, and other materials. Help keep everyone informed and engaged in advocacy efforts.
- Meet with legislators: Attend at least one meeting per year with legislators, representing our congregation's voice and inviting others to participate. Together, we can advocate for meaningful change in our community.
- Engage in advocacy: Encourage congregation members to participate in advocacy activities during the Arizona legislative session. This can include writing letters, sending emails, signing petitions, and making their voices heard on important issues.
- Connect with LAMA program areas: If you're able, facilitate connections between interested members of our congregation and key LAMA program areas. Whether it's addressing hunger, supporting seniors, ensuring equitable distribution of COVID-19 relief, welcoming immigrants, or promoting social justice, your involvement can create a lasting impact.
- Stay informed and engaged: Familiarize yourself and our congregation with the ELCA Social Statements and Social Messages. Register for Arizona's Request To Speak (RTS) system to advocate for legislation from the comfort of your home. Stay connected by following LAMA and ELCA Advocacy on social media, and sharing events and news that resonate with our values.
- Support LAMA financially: Encourage our congregation to support LAMA's efforts through special offerings, inclusion in the budget, or special grants. Together, we can empower LAMA to continue making a difference.
As a LAMA liaison, you will also have the opportunity to participate in monthly liaison meetings via Zoom, held on the third Monday of each month from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. This collaborative platform allows liaisons to exchange ideas, share experiences, and strengthen their advocacy skills.
We invite individuals who are passionate about promoting social justice, eager to engage our congregation in meaningful advocacy, and dedicated to making a positive impact in our community to apply for this rewarding position.
Join us as a LAMA liaison and be the catalyst for change in our community! To express your interest or for further information, please reach out to
