“There is hunger for ordinary bread, and there is hunger for love, for kindness, for thoughtfulness; and this is the great poverty that makes people suffer so much.” – Mother Teresa of Calcutta
In this time of great poverty of love, kindness, and thoughtfulness, I invite you to meditate on Mother Teresa’s wise words this Thanksgiving week.
I also invite you to meditate on Psalm 90 which prays for God’s compassion to satisfy our hungry hearts. It could have been written just for these pandemic days:
Turn, O Lord! How long? Have compassion on your servants! 14 Satisfy us in the morning with your steadfast love, so that we may rejoice and be glad all our days. 15 Make us glad as many days as you have afflicted us, and as many years as we have seen evil. 16 Let your work be manifest to your servants, and your glorious power to their children. 17 Let the favor of the Lord our God be upon us, and prosper for us the work of our hands — O prosper the work of our hands!
May God satisfy our hungry hearts transforming them into grateful hearts this Thanksgiving Day 2021 and each and every day after.
