The grass withers, the flower fades; but the word of our God will stand forever. Isaiah 40:8
A trip to the grocery store on Valentine’s day warmed my heart. I’ve never seen so many men with bouquets of flowers soon to be in the hands of their beloved. Little did I know my husband was among those men selecting the perfect bouquet! I have enjoyed these flowers for a week now, and they are beginning to fade. The roses are drooping and some had to be plucked from the vase. The beauty is intense and gratifying, but it is fleeting.
The only true and lasting beauty that stands forever is the word of God and the grace of Christ we find there. Just as Isaiah reminds us, people are like grass and flowers that wither and fade. God abides with us now and forever. In a time of uncertainty such as this, we need to hang on to the unshakeable, unchangeable promise that God is with us and continues to lead us, guide us, comfort us, and inspire us.
Desert Cross is offering brand new opportunities to hear God’s word in new ways. We pray this Lent for God to renew our hearts for faith and mission. Please join us in worship this Sunday at 9am on YouTube or our website for our Livestream Worship! Pastor Thadd and I will alternate Sundays along with Daniel and Michael. Communion will be served the 1st Monday of each month, and communion supplies can be picked up at both campuses the week prior to communion Sundays.
You can also join us for Zoom Worship on Lenten Wednesdays at 7pm for a prayer service with a Bible Project Video and a guided conversation related to loving God with our hearts, minds, and strength. And throughout every day of the 40 days of Lent, I hope you will immerse yourself in God’s word with the Psalm devotion I wrote for you. The Psalms help us express our sorrows and our joys all wrapped in the love of God which stands forever!
With love, Pastor Andrea
