I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth. Genesis 9:13
These are such difficult times, and I want to remind you of the promise from God to be with us always no matter the circumstances. We have a Lord who knows our suffering and our joy. I once shared in a sermon a song by Kacey Musgraves called "Rainbow." Watch the YouTube video at the end of this post to listen to this song that gives hope in difficult times!
A friend shared a prayer with me from a devotion she received this week. It is written by one of my favorite theologians, Howard Thurman, who shared so much grace and wisdom with the world. Her sharing the prayer caused me to reconnect with the writing of Howard Thurman, especially “The Growing Edge” which is perfect for navigating difficult days in faith. Receiving that prayer was a rainbow in my week.
If you come across a rainbow in your week, share it with a friend. You never know how much it might mean at just the right time. It is difficult to be apart but it won't be forever. But what is forever is God's promise of unconditional love for you! So look for those rainbows and hang onto hope!
Let us pray:
Open unto me—light for my darkness.
Open unto me—courage for my fear.
Open unto me—hope for my despair.
Open unto me—peace for my turmoil.
Open unto me—joy for my sorrow.
Open unto me—strength for my weakness.
Open unto me—wisdom for my confusion.
Open unto me—forgiveness for my sins.
Open unto me—tenderness for my toughness.
Open unto me—love for my hates.
Open unto me—Thy Self for my self.Lord, Lord, open unto me!
—from “Meditations of the Heart” by Howard Thurman
